Lee Dykxhoorn received his Masters in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Design in Architecture, and currently works at Gund in Boston. His graduate work explored the sociocultural context of civic buildings and the political influences in design of public spaces. Today, Lee continues to investigate the production of the built environment as an intentional transformation to promote social change. He has won awards for several projects challenging preconceptions of public space - he was the codesigner of an audio installation that won the Media Lab Permeable Building Competition in 2009, and was the designer of an exhibition on housing at the UN World Urban Forum in 2010. Lee actively promotes early design education in collaboration with Learning By Design in Massachusetts.
